Founded in 2025,
HEY RILEY began as a simple idea: no survivor should ever feel alone, unheard, or unsupported. What started as one person speaking up in the Gympie region has grown into a community‑driven advocacy space built on compassion, lived experience, and the belief that every survivor deserves safety and dignity.
HEY RILEY was created by Riley Leedham, a lived‑experience advocate who knows firsthand how important it is to have someone beside you after sexual assault — someone who listens, understands, and believes you. HEY RILEY was built from that belief, offering survivors a place of empathy, clarity, and steady support.
In the early days, HEY RILEY existed only as a small social media page sharing awareness posts, resources, and messages of hope. But as more people reached out, it became clear that this was becoming something bigger — a trusted point of connection for survivors, families, and community members seeking clarity, comfort, or direction.
Over time, HEY RILEY grew into a recognised advocacy presence in the Gympie region. Riley began developing educational content, community awareness campaigns, and trauma‑informed support pathways to help survivors access the right services at the right time. The work expanded from online posts to real‑world impact: conversations with community groups, resource sharing, prevention messaging, and one‑on‑one support for those who needed someone to walk beside them.
Today, HEY RILEY stands as a lived‑experience–led advocacy service dedicated to supporting survivors, raising awareness, and strengthening community understanding around sexual assault. While not a clinical or professional service, HEY RILEY provides something equally important — empathy, guidance, and a safe place to land.
And the mission remains the same as the day it began: to make sure every survivor feels seen, believed, and supported, no matter where they are in their journey.
